I grew up fishing on the Raritan Bay and all the waterways
I could navigate between New Jersey and New York. Fishing
with my Grandfather, Mike Zsak, I learned how to outsmart
all the inshore species I could angle. I fished every day during the summer
and whenever I could get away on the weekends during school.
At the age of 16 I was introduced to the offshore waters of the Atlantic
Ocean. Targeting the Pelagic Fishery of the Northeast, I found my new
passion - Big Game Fishing.
After jumping from boat to boat and mating whenever I could, chasing after the
"Big One", I finally was able to purchase my own boat. It was a 29'
Mako I named
"The Kid". My friends and I didn't get much rest racking up
300 hours in no time at all; not to mention hauling in our limit on
almost every trip.
In January of 2000, I received my Captain's License and ran many successful
charters on "The Kid" but was not able to get to the Canyon.
Hunting
sharks became my forte', placing in many local tournaments including a
10'5",
398-lb Mako shark.
From 2002 - 2004 I Captained a 38' Hendriques named "Sum Day" and ran many offshore trips. I wintered the boat in the Florida Keys and made the voyage up the coast each April back to New Jersey.
In 2004, the Owner of "Sum Day", Jim Elek, purchased a 40' CABO
named The "Negotiator".
After many successful runs offshore, Mr. Elek afforded me
an opportunity to enter the "Negotiator" into the "Mid Atlantic
500" in August, 2006. At the
end of the week we placed 1st in the total weight Tuna Division
with a payout of $88,000. |
In August of 2007, I returned to the "Mid Atlantic 500" with
the "BIG KID" to win the
Heaviest Tuna category by boating one of the biggest Big
Eyes in the tournament in the last 10 years (see attached).
I have been labeled "Fastidious, thorough, hard working and knowledgeable"...
but I just love to fish and I take my fishing seriously.
To me, a good fisherman knows how to consistently catch his
quarry, but a great fisherman shares that knowledge with others and thus
has an interest in every fish his student lands.
